What is a benefit period?
This is the length of time that we will pay you for any one period of accident, sickness or unemployment. You may make multiple claims (Please find below for more info on multiple claims) for the life of the policy that can continue until retirement age or you cancel it.
As an example:
You choose a 3 month benefit period for Unemployment Only. This means that should you make a successful claim for redundancy we will continue to pay you for 3 consecutive months or until you return to work, which ever comes first (you can make multiple claims).
Why do we offer a .....
3 month benefit period?
This answers the particular needs of young people, many of whom cannot afford the premiums of 12 months cover and yet they are the group with the greatest need. They may be newly married, bought their first home, new baby on the way, car loans, little savings etc. With the greatly reduced premium for 3 months cover this could provide them with all the breathing space they need and some cover is better than no cover.
6 month benefit period?
Many are confident of their abilities to find work quickly, or have a good redundancy or accident and sickness package, so those people might choose the 3 month option. However there are others who are less sure so the 6 month option allows them an additional 3 months peace of mind without the need to take the full 12 months option.
12 month benefit period?
Because we recognise that many people will have skills or circumstances that may mean work would not be so easy to find, or they would just prefer the comfort of the longer benefit period. For them the 12 month benefit period is still available but at one of the most competitive prices on the market.
