Claiming for Accident and Sickness
When Can I Claim
Like other protection insurance policies you must be in receipt of Jobseekers Allowance for unemployment claims or Statutory Sick Pay or Short Term Incapacity Benefit for accident and sickness claims (You could still receive benefit if you do not qualify for Income Support or SSP because you have been entitled to make reduced National Insurance Contributions in the past).
Claiming for Accident and Sickness:
If you are still unable to work 30 days following the day your doctor declares you unfit to work you may make a claim and it will be paid Back to Day OneThis means that you can make a claim after just 30 or more consecutive days loss of income through accident, sickness or unemployment and the claim will be backdated to the first day of the 30. You may make multiple claims for the life of the policy.
Claiming for Unemployment:
If you are not in work more than 30 days after signing on at the JobCentre Plus you can claim and your cover will be paid Back to Day OneThis means that you can make a claim after just 30 or more consecutive days loss of income through accident, sickness or unemployment and the claim will be backdated to the first day of the 30. You may make multiple claims for the life of the policy.
You cannot claim for unemployment for the first 120 days from the start date of the policy - please see initial exclusions period.

What we will not cover following an increase in monthly benefit:
We will not pay the increase in monthly benefit for any disability claim caused by or resulting from any sickness, condition or injury that you have suffered, whether diagnosed or not about which you knew or should reasonably have known at the date you applied for the increase, or had seen or arranged to see a Doctor during the 12 months prior to the date you applied for the increase.
We will not pay the increase in monthly benefit for any unemployment claim where your employment ends within 120 days of the date you applied for the increase, or you were aware of the possibility of impending unemployment at the date you applied for the increase
